“I am the founder of Dreambirth, a company dedicated to providing comprehensive childbirth education for couples and mothers, doula services, hypnobirthing, baby massage, labor support, mother blessings, placenta encapsulation services, birth art therapy, and more. Being a mother myself, I am deeply passionate about assisting other women in having positive birth experiences.

In supporting women through their pregnancies and births, I have come to understand the incredible power of our wombs, the profound connection of our cycles to nature, the innate perfection of women’s bodies, and the myriad transitions we undergo as women. I have also witnessed the invaluable wisdom passed down from mother to daughter, and the enchantment that arises from sharing in circles.

I am acutely aware of the profound impact our experiences as women and our connections with our mothers have on our future relationships, pregnancies, births, sexuality, parenting, and lives. It is my fervent wish for our girls to grow up embodying confidence, self-love, and freedom of expression – deeply attuned to their souls and their evolving bodies. I aim to guide them in exploring the essence of womanhood in a gentle and nurturing manner.

As my daughter Luna approached puberty, I delved deeper into how I could tenderly shepherd her through this transformative phase and use it as an opportunity to strengthen our bond. In 2020, I underwent training with Jane Bennett and became a facilitator of Celebration Day for Girls (CDG).

I am delighted to offer CDG in Perth and within my community. This program is designed to empower young girls and their mothers/caregivers in understanding the menstrual cycle, and navigating the physical, emotional, and psychological changes, particularly menarche – the onset of the first period.

Teaching our young girls about the workings of their bodies, what is considered normal, and how to celebrate all the changes that come with womanhood is a passion of mine. I firmly believe that knowledge is power and that trusting one’s own instincts is made more accessible with tried and true guidance.

While periods mark the beginning, discussing them openly with our daughters, devoid of shame or embarrassment, fosters an environment of trust. Our girls need to know that we are here for them, ready to engage in conversation.

Many mothers yearn to guide their daughters gently into womanhood, offering a different experience than they had 30/40 years ago. While we now have an abundance of resources and have made significant progress in educating our daughters, sometimes intervention isn’t initiated early enough. Consequently, when we try to initiate a conversation, there may be hesitancy to engage. The conversation is often halted before it has a chance to begin.

The menstrual cycle encompasses so much more than just periods. Many girls have shared their fears of the unknown – not knowing when it will happen, how it will happen, how it feels, whether it will hurt, how much blood to expect, and what to do with it…

Beyond the cultural discourse, the term ‘menstruation’ can carry negative connotations due to its association with suffering, pain, harm, and injury. The prevailing attitude toward menstruation seldom aligns with notions of harmony, health, nature, and miracles. Approaching this miraculous bodily function in a positive light dispels fear and shame, replacing pessimism with excitement.

Learning about this truth in a circle of girls imparts a sense of mystery and magic. They feel free to discuss these matters without the need for whispers. They giggle, ask questions, share stories, and learn from one another.

It’s truly heartwarming to witness the girls and their mothers/caregivers leave the workshop with anticipation and excitement, devoid of fear or shame about their bodies or periods. It’s a testament to the transformative power of understanding and embracing our bodies in their entirety.”
